Meet the Team

For the expert staff at our centres, it is all about listening to patients and providing the right solutions. This requires the right team of dental experts, which is what we offer at About Smiles.

About Smiles was established to provide a full range of dental care after noticing that patients were not getting comprehensive and straightforward dental treatments in a single location.

Among our staff are specialists, who include a pediatric dentist, periodontist and an oral maxillofacial surgeon, and several specially trained dental hygienists.

For treatment requiring sedation dentistry or cosmetic dentistry, About Smiles’ patients are in safe and capable hands. Our team of dental experts are supported by our hi-tech facilities which include painless injection system, dedicated patient recovery rooms, an in-house lab and the latest in sedation dentistry technology.

DR COLM GALVIN - Dentist BA (Trinity College, Ireland), B Dent Sc (Trinity College, Ireland)

Since graduation in 2006 from Trinity College Dublin, Dr Colm has been focused on enhancing his skills through regular courses and keeping up to date with new developments and techniques in dental care. He enjoys all aspects of dentistry but particularly enjoys helping patients overcome difficult past experiences and dental phobia. He believes that nobody should have to suffer to have a beautiful smile.

Dr Colm moved to Australia in 2011 and worked in different parts of the country before deciding to settle in Sydney, where he fell in love with the lifestyle, climate, beaches and culture. Known for a friendly demeanour which allows patients to feel comfortable during treatment, Colm loves communicating with patients and helping them to understand treatment options. This allows them to decide on what they feel is both affordable and best for them. His belief is that, "prevention is better than cure" and prides himself in helping patients understand dental disease to prevent problems before they occur.

As a self confessed dental nerd Dr Colm loves learning new treatments and techniques to enhance his patients experience and oral health. He regularly attends courses locally, in Europe and in the United States where he has studied at the prestigious Global Institute for Dental Education. His special interests include complex functional and cosmetic cases, wisdom teeth removal and implant dentistry.

When he is not creating beautiful smiles Dr Colm enjoys spending time with his wife, Luciana, their dog, Bobo, reading and personal fitness.

Prior to joining About Smiles, Dr David Argent has more than 30 years experience in private dental practice in northern Sydney, both in Chatswood and Wahroonga. He takes pride in the quality of all his clinical work and regularly attends professional development courses to keep up-to-date with the rapidly-changing world of modern dentistry.

Outside of dentistry, David is a keen cyclist and Tae Kwon Do black belt. He also enjoys snow skiing and learning (struggling!) to play the bass guitar. His favourite pastime though is just relaxing at home with his family. Find out more about Dr David Argent here

Dr Mark Lu graduated from The University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Applied Science and Graduate Degree in Dentistry with first class honours. He has worked as a health professional for many years which has enhanced his understanding of a patient’s needs, and he practises all aspects of general dentistry, with a special interest in cosmetic dentistry and orthodontics. He is experienced working with patients of all ages and particularly enjoys paediatric dentistry.

From his own childhood painful dental experiences including root canal therapy without local anaesthetic, he has developed a deep understanding of two things: firstly how much a patient suffers when they experience tooth ache and, secondly, the vital importance of daily oral hygiene. Since the day he started practising dentistry, he has been determined to deliver pain free dentistry.

Dr Lu speaks both English and Mandarin fluently and takes the time to discuss treatment options comprehensively with all of his patients so that they understand the pros and cons of these options before making any decisions. He is happy to answer any questions, taking into consideration both function and aesthetics, and his goal is always to provide optimal oral care with long term functional stability. He takes great pleasure in his patients’ satisfaction and beautiful smile after treatment.
